If you have never read the books by Gretchen Ruben “The Happiness Project” or “Happier at Home”, put either or both of them onto this years “to read” list!
One thing Gretchen talks about is keeping her own list of resolutions, her personal rules she wants to live by, so having completed the exercise myself and written them out, I thought I would share mine with you.
These resolutions are for me, by me and I will stick by them in the years to come, in both my business and personal life. Of course I can add more, but these were the first and strongest ones that came to me when I put fingers to keyboard.
- Nothing is for best – Apart from my best suit and evening gown, why wear the same clothes all the time, bring out my Sunday best every day.
- Keep it real – Show my real self, be authentic to who I really am, we are all unique
- Play with water – Drift off in thought while watering the garden, the sound is so peaceful and relaxing, great thinking time
- Don’t keep score – So what if I washed the dishes the last three times, or it really is someone elses turn to change the printer cartridge, just do it.
- Smell the roses – Self-explanatory, taking the time to take in the view when I can, smell the roses.
- Buy great shoes – A must, no more cheapies for me, they get noticed. Buy less but buy better.
- Make more footprints – Visit new places rather than going back to the usual haunts, it’s a big wide town / country / world.
- Laugh and giggle – It feels great!
- Read, read, read – Educate and relax at the same time. I aim for 10 business / development books per year plus various novels.
- Experiment – Try something new when given the chance, or better still make the chance.
- Start now – No point in waiting once I’ve made the decision
- Exert myself – When I am pushing hard, push even harder. It’s amazing what the body can take, so sprint finish, do another lap, or pedal harder, it’s right there inside.
Having your own set of resolutions is not for everyone, but if you like the idea or currently have your own resolutions and you want to share them, I’d love to hear from you below.
